After Care Instructions
How to Care for Your New Tattoo (So It Heals Perfectly)
Step 1.
Leave the Bandage On
Keep the bandage or wrap on for 2–4 hours (or as advised by your artist).
This protects your tattoo from bacteria and keeps it clean during the initial healing stage.
Getting a tattoo is only the first step—how you take care of it is just as important. Follow these instructions carefully to keep your ink looking clean, vibrant, and healthy.
Step 2.
Gently Wash It
After removing the wrap, wash your hands first.
Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, antibacterial soap (like Dial or Dr. Bronner’s).
Pat dry with a clean paper towel—do not rub.
Step 3.
Apply a Thin Layer of Ointment
Use a small amount of tattoo-safe ointment (like Aquaphor, Tattoo Goo, or Hustle Butter).
Do NOT over-apply—your skin needs to breathe to heal.
Step 4.
Continue Cleaning and Moisturizing
Wash your tattoo 2–3 times daily for the first few days.
After 3–4 days, switch from ointment to an unscented lotion.
Keep it lightly moisturized—too much moisture can cause issues.
Step 5.
Let It Peel Naturally
Around day 3–7, your tattoo will start scabbing or peeling like a sunburn.
DO NOT pick, scratch, or peel—this can remove ink and cause scarring.
No swimming (pools, oceans, hot tubs)
